On Saturday, January 11, the Admiral Farragut Academy Orienteering team competed at Croom South, Withlacoochee State Park, and brought home a 3rd place team win and 1st and 2nd place individual wins.

Orienteering originated in Sweden in the early 1900s as a military exercise and came to the U.S. in the 1940s. In 1971 it became officially organized in this country when Orienteering USA (previously U.S. Orienteering Federation) was founded. Visit www.floridaorienteering.org for more information.

Orienteering courses are organized into colors by difficulty; first yellow, then slightly harder is orange, and the hardest is green. Farragut’s yellow team won 3rd place on the yellow course. Abby Fiorillo ‘21 won 1st place on the female yellow course for her first orienteering meet, and Chris Li ‘20 won 2nd place on the male orange course.

Congratulations to our Orienteering Team for another successful competition, and fantastic teamwork by all cadets!
